Snow has returned to Okemo Mountain! As we speak, large flakes are falling from the sky and gathering nicely on the ski trails. The weather guy/gal is reporting consistent snowfall throughout the day and then trailing off around 2 p.m. Okemo currently has cumulated one inch of snowfall, which doesn't seem like much, but it should change the snow surface drastically. Now, on with today's snow report...
Two members of our snow reporting team, Joe & Connor, enjoyed an early-morning hike to the summit of Okemo to capture the current conditions. The biggest thing to report (besides the new snow) is that the snow surface is sticky. How does it get so sticky? Warmer air with more moisture creates a glue-like attraction between your ski and the snow. Rub on that extra layer of wax and hit the steeper trails to get more speed.
The grooming began at 4 a.m. this morning so you will see corduroy across the mountain with a bit of fresh flurries on top. Conditions are machine groomed and variable, but we know the turns will be somewhat fast and smoothed out.
We are all waiting to see snowmaking return! We all know we need it... badly. The guns should be seen firing up today and this evening as well to help cover and protect our beloved ski trails from their warm-weather demise this past week. Stay tuned at @unofficialokemo for a live look.
