Welcome to your Weekend Preview! Yesterday, Abby spent the entire day on the slopes with 14 of her family members and friends. Today, Noah went for an early morning hike to the summit and took a run to capture a view of the current conditions. Here are our findings and what you can expect for the weekend ahead.
Let's begin with yesterday's conditions. The excitement of the snowfall was palpable amongst the skiers and riders with about two inches of new snow accumulating throughout the day. The fat flakes covered the mountain in a blanket of snow, which honestly really helped bring back the wintery aesthetic of skiing. It feels like winter again at Okemo! The conditions were changing throughout the day. The morning brought a hard, machine-groomed surface with areas of death cookies on steeper trails. As the snow continued to fall and the temperature increased, the snow softened up to create a surface that was carvable and forgiving. By 3 p.m. there were sections of high-traffic trails that were turning brown again and becoming moguled-up. This issue should be resolved thanks to Okemo's grooming tonight by today.
Now let's talk about today's conditions. It was Felix and Noah this morning getting up and after it first thing. The skies were clear on the lower part of the mountain preceded to get socked in as they approached the summit. They were making snow around the summit to add snow to the top of the lift and unloading areas. On the way down the snow started to soften, similar to what we've been seeing with the warmer temps. As you got to mid-mountain it firmed up quite a bit. Kind of crusty as the temps dropped from yesterday. Even with the new snow yesterday, the trails are still a little thin, plenty of snow to enjoy but not as wide as we would like at this time in January.
Today's quick facts:
🎿 Trail Count: 64
🚡 Lift Count: 17 - SouthFace is open today!
🔫 Snowmaking: Sweet Solitude & Other Trails Upcoming
🌡️ Weather: High 20s to Mid 30s
❄️ 2 inches of new snow yesterday!
Après Tip: Don't miss Après Afternoons from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Jackson Gore Courtyard! Grab a drink, enjoy the live music, and soak in the views of Okemo.
Please note that there will be no beginner access from the summit today. This means Blue Square is your next best option from the summit for the easiest way down.
