Good morning, everyone; if you were hoping for some quippy remarks from Abby, I am here to dash your dreams. She will be off the clock for a week while down in Orlando with her family. 🎢 I know this may disappoint some of you, but I will do my best to keep things fun and exciting while she is away. Now, onto your regularly scheduled early morning hike. 🎥 Today's cast of characters included Hannah, myself, and one of last year's fan favorites, Felix.

I went to bed last night expecting to be hiking solo, but when I woke up at 5 a.m. and checked my phone, Hannah and Felix were ready to rock, so that meant I actually had to get out of bed when I said I would. 😴 Hannah and I met at the parking lot around 5:30 and linked up with Felix at the base a few minutes later. It was a warm start this morning; with temperatures in the upper 20s to start our hike, the layers came off quickly. It was a great hike getting to catch up with Felix after a long summer. As we gained elevation, it felt like we had an inversion, which means it was warmer on the summit than at the base. 🌡️ The snow was soft, not too sticky, but definitely a change from earlier this week. At the summit, we got to take in a sliver of sunrise and chat with some fellow uphill travelers as we transitioned to downhill mode.

It was a little windy at the summit; if you watched my Instagram story from this morning, you will know what I mean. 💨 When weather systems are moving in, you, typically experience wind as different pressure systems are moving around, and that is what is going on here. That didn't impact the skiing, though; it was a mixed bag of soft snow where the groomers had been recently and some firmer snow that had set up overnight. ⛷️ We expect soft snow across the mountain this weekend as temperatures continue to rise with a looming storm on Sunday. While we didn't get to check out Jackson Gore, we are very excited to get over there to check out some new terrain! 🥳
Pro Tip: When you get a new camera, make sure you test it before you get to the summit and have the wrong SD card.
