21. Sunday, December 10th, 2023

Well, we had quite a crowd today; Felix, Jen, Larry, and John all joined me for an early hike to finish the weekend strong. 💪 After a fun night at Main and Mountain with friends and attending the Fire and Ice fundraiser for the Ludlow Fire Department (I did try to get hypnotized, but no dice 🎲), I couldn't think of a better way to start my Sunday.

'Tis the season for holiday shopping so why not support your favorite small business and snow reporting crew by gifting one of our super cool merch items! 🎁

A slight break in the fog.

Today's crew started out a little after 5:30 a.m. We started out in the heavy fog, the kind of fog that makes it hard to get your bearings if you aren't super familiar with the mountain. Sometimes, this means you end up reaching your destination in much less time because you can't see much. Just one step in front of the other, and all of a sudden, you are at the top. 🗻 It was a warm day as well, with temps in the mid-30s. This was Jen's first hike of the year, and she and John were leading the charge for most of the hike. 🙌 Nice work, you two! Towards the summit, the fog did lift a bit, giving us much better visibility compared to the lower mountain. The wind also kicked up at the summit; it wasn't cold, but it did help visibility.

Today's Quick Facts:

🏔️ Trail Count: 38/122

🚡 Lift Count: 9/20

⛷️ Today's Ski: Nordica Enforcer 94 Unlimited

🎿 Today's Boot: Nordica Unlimited LT 103 DYN

🧤 Today's Gear: Helly Hansen

After a quick break at the summit, it was time to head down. We kept our headlamps on to make sure any groomers or snowmobiles could see us and ventured out into the void. 🌫️ The upper part of the mountain had moderate visibility along with the base area, but there was a section in the middle that was almost pretty rough. The snow was great and soft, but you could still hold an edge well. ⛷️ The limiting factor today is going to be visibility. If you are out on the hill today, the snow will be great, but you won't get any stellar views.

Now, onto today's forecast. We are going to get some weather rolling in this afternoon which is going to be mainly rain and end with some snow. We are expected to see significant rain overnight and into Monday morning before the temperature drops rapidly at the end of the storm. 🌡️ Wind will also be a factor and could impact skiing conditions on Monday. I would not be surprised to see some delayed lift openings tomorrow due to icing. 🧊 We do have a very strong potential to see some significant snow accumulation, I haven't seen a great forecast number, but with these kinds of storms, it will all depend on when the temperatures change. 🌨️ We could end up with a pretty big storm or a dud. If you are staying in town tonight, I would not plan on great travel conditions Monday morning. We will keep you updated, don't forget to do your snow dance tonight! 💃🕺

Pro Tip: Having a pair of clear lenses is a great idea for days like this. Most goggles have easy-to-replace lenses, and throwing an extra lens in your bag is never a bad idea.

Our friends at The Boot Pro will be hosting a Free Demo Day next week! 🎿 If you are interested in some new gear or just want to test out this year's hot new skis, you don't want to miss it. You can register online here. We hope to see you there!
