Hey there readers - Jessie here with our first post-rainstorm snow report. The mountain closed on Monday due to some very heavy rain, and had a delayed opening yesterday while the Okemo team was hard at work getting things back in shape. Sending our love and support to anyone dealing with issues from rain or flooding (I can't be the only one with a leaky roof, right?!). Bottom line - I wasn't too optimistic about conditions when I pulled up to Jackson Gore this morning - but overall, I was pleasantly surprised! 😊

Most trails today had firm hardpack underneath with a workable coat of sugar on top. After heading up Quantum Six I took Sunset Strip and Mountain Road over to Solitude. Heavens Gate was in great shape, with a few more crumbles on Screamin Demon and the Plunge. My favorite run today was Sweet Solitude - the very top had some bare spots and was roped off, but after crossing over via the cut through it was smooth sailing. ⛵ Next I hit Jolly Green Giant - like most trails, the steeper sections were the most scraped off. I'm not trying to sugar coat things - it's a bit scratchy and scrape-y out there, but still so much better than I expected after all the rain earlier this week! The lack of crowds today is really helping the snow stay in decent shape.
I'll admit it was sad to see a lot of grass on trails like Quantum Leap (one of my favs!) where snowmaking had been progressing nicely, but we all know our trusty snowmakers are getting right back at it. Huge shout out to our amazing Mountain Ops team for pulling off a pretty smooth recovery after such a big rainstorm! 😎 Based on my internet sleuthing, it seems like our trail count wasn't hit nearly as hard as some of our neighboring ski mountains. When I signed up to do our first report after the storm I was worried I'd have to be the bearer of bad news, but as always Okemo pulled out all the stops and is generally rocking it! ❄️
Today's Quick Facts:
🏔️ Trail Count: 39/122
🚡 Lift Count: 10/20
⛷️ Today's Ski: Nordica Santa Ana
Overall, today was a pleasant surprise after this week's weather - the sun was shining, visibility was great, and crowds were minimal. My last day out was Saturday, and somehow today's conditions weren't drastically different (maybe because I was out late Saturday afternoon and things had gotten a bit scraped off already). Be sure to get out on the hill if you have time this week before the holiday crowds hit this weekend! Get those edges sharpened and get at it folks! ⛷️
Pro Tip: Okemo is blowing snow across the mountain to help us bounce back - make sure to keep your goggles down and wits about you if you're skiing under the guns! 🥽
