Happy New Year's Eve to our "Unofficianados", it's Abby with your late-morning intro. I felt like I should take a minute to reflect on the last 12 months, specifically about how much Unofficial Okemo has grown thanks to the support of our amazing subscribers, followers, and Patrons.
We sent our inaugural snow report on 12/17/22 and it was delivered to only two contacts... fast forward to today and our subscriber list is now over 1,200 contacts. With an 80% open rate, I'm pretty sure we have one of the most effective e-newsletters of all time. 👑
Our online community continues to grow every day and we are so grateful to all of you who take the time to read our reports, comment on our videos, and contribute on our Patreon. We would be nothing without the input, support, and cheers from our Unofficianados. Here's to more memories, lots of snow, and good times in 2023! 🎉
Today was our last hike of 2023 and we had a blast! We had another great crew of friends who tackled today’s adventure. I got some "extra sleep" today and we met at the parking lot at 6 a.m. I was joined by Hannah, Joe, Blakely, Chris aka “The Dude”, Felix, and Jen. We were greeted by the hum of the air compressors as we rallied in the parking lot, meaning snowmaking is happening! ❄️
As we made our way uphill, the snow guns were blasting in the base, Lower Arrow, and Sapphire. It is not the most enjoyable thing to hike through the snow guns and it’s hard to hear each other, but we will manage because we need all the snow we can get. We were moving at a good pace and I felt much better than yesterday.
Today's Quick Facts:
🏔️ Trail Count: 50/122
🚡 Lift Count: 18/20

🎿 Today's Boot: Nordica Unlimited LT 103 DYN

There was a lot of action going on this morning! Groomers were out, snowmaking was cranking, and there were quite a few other uphill travelers as well. We even saw a trio of hikers with Timberlands and Yak Tracks on wandering around. We weren’t sure if they were lost or just out for an early morning stroll to the summit. 🤔
The summit was a little foggy this morning, which made the visibility tough. With ongoing operations teams working around the mountain, you want to make sure you are paying attention. The groomers and snowmobile lights are dimmer in the fog, and it insulates the sound of them coming. 🚨
Pro Tip: Celebrate NYE at Okemo from 5-8 p.m. tonight with music and fireworks!
The snow was variable with fresh snowmaking and active grooming. We had a mixture of soft, wetter snow and corduroy that was firm and had a chance to set. The upper mountain was more consistent for sure. We need all the help we can get, so this fresh snowmaking is welcomed! The snow surface will even out as it gets skied today. 🧈
Overall, it was another great day out with some great people. I don’t get to see Blakely and Joe often, so it was nice to get some skiing in with them. Joe is a great guy and all, but he also is our insider Nordica hookup so I have to talk nice about him. He is the one who took a shot on us and hooked us up with our new Nordica skis and boots this year! We will be seeing Joe later this winter when we get up to his stomping ground at Stowe on a special UO field trip. 🤘
As we head into 2024 Abby and I want to thank all of you for your continued support, we couldn’t do it without you, not just the financial support from our Patrons, sponsors, and merch fans either. The comments and emails we receive help us grind through the burnout, wake up at 4:30 am, and continue to enjoy this passion project of ours. ❤️
