Happy Saturday, skiers and riders! 🪩 The weekend is in full swing here at Okemo and the stoke is high with tonight's snow storm on the way. The conditions haven't changed much since yesterday, so instead of focusing on that, I thought I'd dive more into what to expect for what I'm dubbing "Winter Storm Mojo". Not only are we quite literally getting our mojo back with new snow but it's also a tribute to Ludlow's (and Noah's) favorite Tex-Mex Restaurant that is currently rebuilding from the flood! ❄️🌮
Before I get into Winter Storm Mojo, here's a brief overview of what to expect on the slopes if you decide to ski today:
👉 Conditions are comparable to yesterday: firm, fast, icy in spots, pushed snow
👉 It's busy! Sunburst & Evergreen were delayed, so the morning crowds are lit
👉 Solitude will be a shorter wait - head there!
👉 Heaven's Gate to Screamin' Demon should be your trail pick of the day
👉 It's a bit warmer today, but still chilly so the bubble lifts will be busy for sure
👉 Take the Black Ridge Triple to the Evergreen if you don't want to go to Sunburst
👉 Kettlebrook is now open for skiing - congrats to the owners & renters!
👉 It's filling up by the minute out there. Ski safe!
Today's Quick Facts:
🏔️ Trail Count: 55/122
🚡 Lift Count: 17/20
Now let's talk about what everyone wants to know. How much snow are we getting? We've got all of our information today from West River Weather Guy. He's our go-to hyper local weather channel. You should give him a follow!
Pro Tip: Jackson Gore Apres Afternoons from 2-5 p.m. today!
This is a "heavy to moderate" snow storm for our area, which is music to my ears. We will likely see light snow around 9 p.m. here in Vermont this evening with the first wave of the heaviest snow happening from midnight to 6 a.m. on Sunday. ❄️ The center of the storm is actually going to be more south of us, around Boston, but we will still get the goods. The snow quality should be nice and powdery, so it won't be ideal for making snowmen, but it will be prime for skiing. Nice and light and easy to maneuver through. 🧈
Sunday morning could see a storm redevelopment of sorts. We will see a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch of snow an hour on Sunday through the late morning. ⏰ By Sunday middway, the storm will start to clear out with one last final hit of snow.
How much snow are we really getting? 🤨 We are right in the pocket for 6 to 10 inches at Okemo and higher elevations, though this could be conservative. There are some forecasts calling for up to a foot or more of snow, so let's hope we get the latter. In the village, we will likely see 5 to 8 inches. It'll be decent, plowable snow, and it will turn our ski town into a winter wonderland. Finally, no more grass! 🌱
For those traveling home tomorrow, you might want to book an extra night. 😆 For one, the skiing will be fantastic and you won't want to miss it. The roads will likely be slick in the afternoon after the storm subsides. Areas south of us are likely to get more snow and then areas around the coast of New England may see rain, so that'll make for an interesting drive. Be safe our there!
Are you stoked? I am! I cannot wait to get some fresh powder turns for the first time this season. Let's gooooooooooo Winter Storm Mojo! ☃️
