42. Sunday, January 7th

HAPPY POWDER DAY! ❄️ It's Abby with your first actual snow report of the season. The pure bliss and essence of skiing returns to Okemo, finally! We woke up to 6+ inches of snow this morning and we expect to gain several more inches throughout the day. I wasted no time and arrived at the mountain for first chair at Jackson Gore for some untouched turns. It. Was. Amazing. 😁

As you know, I'm on 'Team Jackson Gore' girly and today I was very happy Danny and I decided to park there after learning that the Sunburst, Evergreen, and Glades Peak Quad were on wind hold to start the morning. I don't know what it was like on the other side, but I imagine it was a bit chaotic. After waiting for first chair, I enjoyed my first freshies run down Sunset Strip - Mountain Road - Screamin' Demon and back to Solitude. I was "woohooing" all the way down as I cruised effortlessly through super light, fluffy snow. I thought "this is what dreams are made of". 💘

Today's Quick Facts:

🏔️ Trail Count: 59/122

🚡 Lift Count: 17/20

⛷️Today's Ski: Nordica Santa Ana

🎿 Today's Boot: Nordica Dobermann 5

🧤 Today's Gear: Helly Hansen Powderqueen Set (hood up, of course)

We continued to lap the Solitude Express Quad due to the summit lifts on wind hold, but that was fine with me because Coleman Brook ended up being the best run of the day for me. It goes to show that just because you're an advanced skier, doesn't mean the black diamond trails will always be the best. We were flying through untouched powder with no ice beneath. I'lll remember than run for a long time. 🩵

Pro Tip: When the Sunburst opens, you'll be able to grab freshies from the summit.

Other trails like The Plunge and Lower Limelight were already getting bumped up by 9 a.m. which comes to no surprise since the summit access still wasn't an option up til now (via the Evergreen at the time of writing this). Quantum Leap looks like it may open today as we saw the patrollers preparing it, which is a great option for people who need a break from the bumps; it's smoothed out and nicely groomed. 🐱

The mountain is looking absolutely beautiful and this snow day has lit the stoke fire in me again. We will continue to see more trails open now that we finally have some natural snow. 🙌

As for my skiing performance, I felt like a superstar. ⭐️ My custom fitted boots from The Boot Pro combined with my Nordica Santa Anas has made me realize that I'm a much better skier than I give myself credit for. I felt completely in control through the snow bumps on The Plunge, meanwhile last season I would have felt like I was falling out of my skis. The pros at The Boot Pro can get you setup for success any time.
