43. Monday, January 8th

I'm about to make a bold statement, but today is the BEST day of the season so far. 🏆 I think everyone can agree with me on this. 😉 The snowstorm ended up dropping a total of 13 inches at Okemo, allowing for some awesome leftover powder today and brilliantly groomed terrain as well. Pair that with blue skies and snow-covered trees, today felt like a Hallmark movie. If you didn't make it up there today, I'm really sorry to hear that, but don't worry because you can live vicariously through my report! 🩵

Everyone must have gotten the memo that we had a snow storm, because it was jammin' for a Monday morning. Both base areas are parking into the lower lots, and the Sunburst Six line is quite the wait for a weekday. It's cool to see how stoked everyone is to be out there, and I'm sure of you played hooky today. Don't worry, I won't tell your boss. 😜

Today's Quick Facts:

🏔️ Trail Count: 61/122 & Counting!

🚡 Lift Count: 11/20

⛷️Today's Ski: Nordica Santa Ana

🎿 Today's Boot: Nordica Dobermann 5

🧤 Today's Gear: Helly Hansen Powderqueen Set

I got to ski a lot of newly opened terrain today! 👏 My first run of the day was Vortex to Quantum Leap, which had lots of snowmaking on it over the weekend. The new snow was the cherry on top, but I think this trail will be at its prime after it has been skied on a bit more. Vortex was very choppy with death cookies, but the rest of Quantum Leap was a nice, firm cruiser. Definitely one of the harder trails I skied today.

My second run down Sunset Strip to Mountain Road with the goal of finding powder was successful after realizing that the middle part of Boomerang was open and not groomed. 🎉 It was glorious, short, and insanely fluffy. Things got even better when the lower half of Boomerang opened later in the morning for a nearly top-to-bottom powder run. We waited for the ski patroller to drop the rope and enjoyed about a foot of untouched pow. 🥰

Pro Tip: Keep an eye out for rope drops today! New terrain is coming.

Another newly opened trail I got to enjoy this morning is Timberline! One of my favorite runs on the mountain, mostly because you can access Cutter's Folly which is an extremely underrated trail. 🥸 Upper Timberline was nicely groomed, which isn't surprising. Cutter's Folly was ungroomed, a bit thin in some spots, but the side of the trail was so powdery that I had a blast cruising through the shortcut. I stayed right and cut back onto Lower Timberline which was ungroomed and fabulous. I scored yet another leftover pow trail and enjoyed every second of it. 😇

I hate to end the report this way, but just a fair warning to enjoy this snow while you can, because the forecast is showing signs of mixed precipitation tomorrow and the dreaded rain on Wednesday. 😡 So get out there for some runs, talk a walk in the snow, sled in your backyard, or snowshoe with your dog.
