Good morning, folks; your favorite snow reporter, Noah, is back in action with an uphill adventure for you this morning. ⛷ I took some time off as work got in the way, and Abby and the team churned out some great content. I am sitting here with my Marvel coffee mug, trying to channel her wordsmithing; wish me luck... 🤞
Now, what I am sure you have all been wondering is what's going on with the weather today. Unfortunately, I think I am about to get the blame for today's precipitation... ☔️
When the alarm went off at 4:45, we received a couple of inches here in town. I met Hannah and Chris in the parking lot around 5:20 and we were off into a winter wonderland. It was snowing heavily as we made our way up the mountain, and the snow was dry, especially as we made it farther up the mountain. The groomers were out laying down some corduroy on select trails. Mike M. made a quick appearance before he left us behind, and all we could see was his tight pants fading into the distance. 👖 As we neared the summit, the wind picked up, and we started to see wind drifts and very dry snow. In no time, we were discussing the merits of Breathe Right Strip and were blasted by the wind as we crested the last rise before the summit. The kind of wind that can knock you off your feet if you aren't careful. 💨 We ripped our skins off and bundled up, and fortunately, Chris had some extra glasses for me as I forgot to pack my goggles. We were geared up for our descent around 7:10, and the bubbles weren't on the Sunburst yet, which meant a wind hold was expected. As I am writing this, the Upper Mountain lifts are still on hold. 🛑

The ski down was great, aside from the fact that I couldn't see. 👀 The glasses were great, but I kept fogging them up, and the wind ensured all the snow made its way into my eyes. The snow was really great, and the groomers were like butter, truly top-notch snow texture. 💯 I don't recommend this, but... it was actually perfect conditions to trust your feet and ski. The snow was a mix of windblown and fresh snow on the upper mountain, and somewhere around mid-mountain, it changed over to rain. 🌧️ I couldn't see, so I don't know exactly where that was, though. My Instagram story this morning was raving about the snow, but if you are in the base area right now, you can see that it didn't last too long. Unfortunately, the base area temps are expected to stay in the low to mid-30s today, which will mean mostly rain, but we are right on the edge, so that may change. The summit is expected to see colder temperatures and a higher chance of being mostly snow. 🌨️ The wind will continue to be a factor, though, which means access may be tough. As you have seen from some of our videos, when the lifts are on wind hold, it can actually be pretty rough up there. Be assured that the mountain ops team will be doing their best to ensure everyone stays safe, and they will open the upper mountain lifts as soon as they can.
Pro Tip: Hike with friends who bring cookies to the summit! (Thank you Brendan's Mom!) 🍪
We do have some fun events going on over the next couple of days.
First off is a Sip and Shop event at Tygart Mountain Sports to showcase their new beer colab with Rutland Beer Works! 🍻 Stop by their shop at the bottom of the access road today, 1/13, from 2-6 pm.
Tomorrow, Okemo has a super cool event sponsored by our favorite outerwear company, Helly Hansen! They will be opening the Jackson Gore lifts 1 hour early on Sunday, 1/14. This is exclusive to Epic Pass holders; First Chair will be at 7 am at Jackson Gore. Hopefully, we'll see you out there! 🥳
To wrap up the weekend, our favorite cocktail spot, Main and Mountain, is hosting a popup with Neighborhood Noodle! I haven't heard of them before, but who doesn't love a good bowl of noodles after a long ski day? I know I do, stop by from 3-7 pm for some tasty treat. 🍜
