Good afternoon, readers! Welcome back to another Snow Report Takeover with everyone's favorite adventure photographer, Riley Karl. 📸 As you may know, we've dipped into a bit of a warm spell with a teeny bit of rain and lots of fog with temps in the 30s. 🌡️ The snow is holding up though, and it's nothing to be overly concerned about conditions-wise! If anything, this warm-up streak has been great for recovering from the ice last weekend.
Follow along with Riley on her morning uphill hike, and then actually follow her over on Instagram at @rileykarlphotography as a thank you for getting you today's snow report! 🪇
Hey, it’s Riley! Sorry for the delayed report, I had meetings for my 9-5 big girl job this morning. Now, let me tell you about my 5-9 up on the mountain…
My biggest takeaway in a couple of words: low visibility! 🙈 Today is definitely a day for clear lenses. 🥽 After a depressing rainy episode last night, the snow is definitely “packed powder” this morning, and quite firm & fast.
Conditions will likely soften up throughout the day. I noticed the bottom was much softer than the top. 🧈 Great for that spring-skiing feeling carving.
Today's Quick Facts:
🏔️ Trail Count: 117/122
🚡 Lift Count: 11/20
The forecast is looking like more rain is coming our way tomorrow, with a chance of a mix, making for an interesting Friday on the slopes. 😳 The temps will stay in the 30s and near the 40s on the mountain both today and tomorrow and through the weekend.
Conditions will feel like spring-skiing with mashed potatoes, super soft terrain both on the trails and in the trees. 🌲 We have a reliable base at this point rolling in at a depth of 16-inches, as reported by Okemo. A little rain won't hurt us too bad, and I can't imagine losing any trails because of this weather hiccup either.
Pro Tip: Wear clear lenses today, or even Pit Vipers if you have them.
Tonight, you can join Riley's dad, Joe Karl, for a Full Moon Snowshoe Hike hosted by Okemo! Meet Joe at the Ice House Parking Lot at 6 p.m. tonight for a two-hour hike along Jackson Gore's trails. Bring your hiking poles, snowshoes, a snack, and a headlamp. Who's planning to go? 👋
Plus, mark your calendars for a FREE local family event on Saturday, February 10th featuring Comedian & Ventriloquist, Al Getler! 😆 Hosted by William Raveis Vermont Properties, they are celebrating their 25-year anniversary with an event for the community. Al is a terrific performer that both kids and adults will love!
One last update! Abby is heading to Stowe this weekend for a girl's trip. Stay tuned for a Sunday Stowe Report! Your first ever Unofficial Stowe coverage. 🤘
