To identify as an East Coast skier, you have to be ok with taking some punches from Mother Nature. 🥊 While the fresh fluffy powder was great for a few days, we got hit by a nasty rain and sleet storm. We would have loved for it to stay cold and turn that mush into kush, but then where's the fun in that? The "R" word seems like it could be detrimental to a snow-covered ski mountain, but honestly, the snow is holding up just fine. You'll get over it soon though, because Mother Nature is apologizing with a snowstorm tomorrow evening. ❄️ In the meantime, let's hear what Noah has to say about his wet ski day.
Hey everyone, Noah here with your morning report. First off, it is pretty nasty out there right now. 🤢 I didn’t skin this morning, but our subscriber & ski pal, Joe, did and his first impressions were “crusty up top, nice and smooth on the lower and foggy and rainy at bottom.” After hearing this, I had to go and take a look myself.
We had some rain/mix earlier this morning, which tapered back by the time I got on the hill. The lower mountain was foggy, but the snow was soft, spring skiing snow. At the summit it was cooler, which left us with some crust. 🍕 I spent some time in the woods, bumps, groomers, and the park to get a feel for where you should spend your time. The woods were soft and I think part of the crust on the rest of the mountain came from the wind, because the woods are more sheltered. The bumps on Sel’s Choice were soft, but the heavy snow is grabby. 👊 The more they get skied, the better they will get. The groomers were in good shape, but crusty in sections, so be ready for some inconsistencies, especially as you make your way from the summit to the base. Lastly the park is always fun, but the biggest concern is visibility. 👓 The low light and fog make it more difficult to get your bearings.
That being said, I would spend some time in the woods today. 🌲 Skiing the trees slows you down, making it easier to deal with the low visibility, and the snow is soft and forgiving in there.
Pro Tip: Always check your pockets before you head out the door, especially when you change your ski coat, for your ski pass. 🙄

This storm system will move out later today and leave us with a calm before another snow storm greats us Friday evening. Tomorrow’s temperatures will be in the high-20s to mid-30s with cloudy skies. 🌨️ We are expecting snow to start later tomorrow evening and continue through Saturday evening. They are calling for 6-12 inches of snow with a chance of some mixed precipitation at the tail end. Keep doing your snow dance!
