I'm not going to sugarcoat it; the conditions are rough this morning. Good morning skiers and riders, this is Abby with your Sunday snow report, and I'm not embarrassed to say I threw in the towel after one run. 😂 After yesterday's warmup and last night's freeze, the snow is less than ideal today. I really hope that the snow softens as the day warms up, so I suggest you don't start your ski day until noon today. 🚨
We've got new merch! Visit www.unofficialokemo.com/shop to shop now! 🥰
We have 2 NEW PATRONS! We're thrilled to welcome Peter Z from Long Island and Brian Pendleton to the Unofficial fam. 👏 Thanks for your support!
Let's start with the bad and then close out the report with the good stuff. The snow has turned into cookies, tennis balls, or snow rocks, whatever you choose to call them. 🎾🍪🪨 This happens when the snow begins to melt like it did yesterday and then it freezes into balls overnight, even after groomers go over it. I wasn't surprised to see this with how the temperature was acting.
Snow cookie conditions can be some of the most challenging and dangerous terrain, and as an advanced skier, even I'm concerned about skiing on a day like today. Please take caution, slow down, and try to find those high-traffic trails that may have gotten smoothed out a bit more. ⚠️
I started at Jackson Gore, took Sunset Strip to Mountain Road over to the Evergreen Express Quad to link up with my friends Cole and Pearson. 🥰 They warned me about the conditions because my trip down wasn't too alarming yet, which isn't surprising as it's beginner terrain and high-traffic trails. We took Countdown to Fall Line and both were just downright bad. Insane amount of cookies, thin icy spots, and washboard cord. Lower World Cup was just as bad, and when I got to the Sunburst I was relieved to have made it down. 😅 Now keep it mind, this was all before 9 a.m. so I imagine the conditions will get better as time goes on.

At the summit, I told the guys I was turning in for the day because my biggest thing about skiing is being safe, and I felt like I didn't have control over my skis in this type of conditions. 😖
I took Sweet Solitude, which wasn't too terrible. When I crossed over to Heaven's Gate and Screamin' Demon, I was met with the worst of cookies and was going incredibly slowwwwwwww. Finally making it down to Solitude, I turned onto Daybreak... this is where the good part of the story comes in. 😄
Pro Tip: You don't have to force yourself to ski if you don't want to :)
What is on Daybreak you ask??? Well, only the infamous Candy Mailbox!!! 🍭 I filled up the mailbox with Unofficial Okemo stickers and ONE Candy Mailbox kids t-shirt (size XL) which I'm sure is already gone at this point. Go watch my latest Instagram Reel to see! 🍬
As you know, we try to be as transparent and honest as possible. 🙏 While this isn't a very positive snow report, I hope it helped you make your decision to ski or not today, or at least gave you some insight on what to expect the next time we have a warm springlike day followed by a freeze.
I'm sure the groomers will work their magic and continue to correct the snow surfaces, but just know it's not their fault it's like this. Mother Nature calls the shots afterall. 🙈
Let's close out this report with a shoutout to the Ski Patrollers who take care of us on the slopes. ❤️ We missed National Ski Patrollers Day yesterday, and that was a crime. Thank a ski patroller out on the slopes today and tell them they are doing a great job, a little compliment goes a long way.
