72. Saturday, February 24th

Happy Caturday! 🐱 The groomers served up some unexpectedly fantastic corduroy this morning, and I'm here to tell you all about it. It's me, your ski bestie, Abby! 👯‍♀️ After yesterday afternoon's warm temps and soft snow, 🌡️ I was expecting the conditions to be very firm and granular this morning. Okemo's magical grooming team proved me wrong and whipped out a carveable and quite smooth snow surface. I was shocked, but not surprised. ⬇️

I was on a solo mission this morning with plans to crank out two quick runs, keep to myself, and set my focus on being back home to write the snow report within an hour. I failed. 😆 If you know me, you know I love to meet new people and talk (a lot). There were lots of great chairlift conversations today with Chris from the Newport Ski Club, a ski instructor for Okemo's Amplitude program, and presumably a long-lost soul sister named Abby, who was joined by her squad. 🙌

If you remember my report about getting stuck on the Sunburst Six for what felt like an hour (it was 20 min lol), I was seated next to Abby and we became ski friends. Funny enough, we found each other again on the Quantum Six this morning and it just proves my point that Vermont is the best place to live and play; you'll always see someone you know. 💖

Today's Quick Facts:

Anyway, let's talk about the ski conditions! When I say I was surprised, I mean it. 😍 The conditions exceeded my expectations and it was hard to call it after only four runs. Okemo noted that they did do some regrooming, but it's unclear where. I can tell you that all of Jackson Gore's trails were absolute bangers today. 👏 JG is the last to be groomed, so I imagine that SouthFace's conditions are different.

My first run of the day down Vortex to Eclipse was sooooooooo good. 🤤 I don't know when Okemo started grooming Eclipse, but I am so stoked they did. I got fresh, buttery, smooth cord all the way down. It's often frozen moguls like it's upper-half, Big Bang, which I will go on the record saying is not my favorite type of terrain. I like it easy, I like to cruise, and I like to go kind of slow. 😌 I think some of you may be surprised by this, but it's true, I like to luxuriate in the moment while I ski. 🧘‍♀️

White Lightning to Quantum Leap was pretty sweet too. White Lightning was groomed nicely and I just love how wide that trail is. The bottom of Quantum Leap was a bit more dicey, but that's to be expected for a high-traffic trail. 🚦

I did something really nice for you today and I skied Tuckered Out. 🤯 I have famously said this is not my favorite trail, but I know it's a cult classic at this point, so I figured I should give it a whirl. It was my first time skiing it all season with its delayed opening for the season. I have to say, it rocked. 🤘 The groomers crush that winding trail and I don't know how they do it. This run is so ideal for beginners, families, and skiers who like to luxuriate like myself. Be careful about where you stop for a rest on this trail though, there are some blind turns and you've gotta be smart! 🧠

Pro Tip: Ski the trail less traveled for better conditions, generally.

For my "2 Minus 1" run, I did something I NEVER do and I re-skied a trail. ↪️ Vortex to Eclipse was just so incredibly nice, I had to hit it again. After getting about an hours worth of tracks, the snow was still just as good, if not better. A 10/10 morning.

Okemo's snowmaking team has continued firing up the guns and have kept operations rolling for the holiday week. ❄️ This shouldn't go unnoticed, because most resorts pull the plug on snowmaking in February, especially when the mountain is already 100% open. Thank a snowmaker! 🙏 Nor'Easter, Sweet Solitude, Sel's Choice, and the base areas were graced with the frozen goods overnight.

Tonight is Comedy Night with Raanan Hershberg is at the Okemo Base Lodge! 🎭You can still purchase tickets to support OMARA here. Hosted by William Raveis Vermont Properties.

There is a USASA Halfpipe Event on Sunday 2/25 for Snowboarding and Freeski! 📣 Our friends at Okemo Mountain School will have several students competing! You can watch the competition in the dedicated viewing areas.
