Guess what?! We have some fantastic news! 🎉 Noah hiked again for the first time in two weeks, which means we are serving up sunrise shots, first tracks intel, and an early-morning snow report. Saturday should bring an interesting day of weather with snow and a possible wintery mix system beginning around 1 p.m. which will continue into Sunday morning. 🌨️ Today is also the first day the mountain has lost trails: Lower Moonshadow at Solitude and Eclipse at Jackson Gore. 👋 While these are not heavy-hitter trails, it's a sign that the spring weather is affecting the non-snowmaking trails. As we near the end of March, I'd say it's pretty impressive that the mountain is nearly 100% open. Enough with my blabber, let's hear about Noah's lovely one-hour hike to the summit:
Good morning, readers. It's Noah with your morning report! I had a bit of a head start on the day today, making it ideal for me to hike this morning. 🏁 I have some college friends in town who are staying at Winterplace, so instead of driving to the mountain and starting at the base area, I got to walk out the front door and right onto Lower Arrow. I could sit here and tell you all about the people who slept late and didn’t meet up with me, but I won’t do that because you know who you are. 😒 I looked at it as an opportunity to jam out to the "All Out 50’s" playlist on Spotify and hammer down. 🎶 I made pretty good time if I do say so myself…
The sunrise was absolutely spectacular...truly epic. By the time I made it to the summit, the sun was just poking over the mountains in the east. The sky was bright and the storm clouds were visible in the south and east. 🌅 The snow on the way down was firm and fast, that mid-winter kind of snow. Just like yesterday, the soft spring snow set up over night leaving us with a new kind of ski surface. It doesn’t look like it will soften up until later in the day once the storm rolls in, though. The groomed trails are going to be the ticket today. 🎟️ The moguls and glades will be hard and firm, so they are not our first recommendation.
Pro Tip: Après Afternoons is happening from 2 -5 p.m. today with live music from White Steer in the Jackson Gore Courtyard! Plus, face painting for kids in the Roundhouse!🎨
Today's Quick Facts:
🎿 Trail Count: 120/122
🚡 Lift Count: 18/20 (No Sachem or Glades Peak Quads)
🌨️ Weather: Low-30s & Snow/Mix
The storm we have coming in this afternoon is going to be wet, no question. 💦 Precipitation will likely start as snow sometime after 12-noon. Wintery mix and rain are likely to join any snowfall and continue through the night and into Sunday morning. It doesn’t look like we will get a whole lot of accumulation at the end of the day. The West River Weather Guy is approximating 1-2 inches but again, it's going to be wet accumulation. Depending on temps we could end up with a trace of 3 inches. Keep doing your snow dance and have fun on the slopes today.
