Good afternoon, shredders. It's Noah with your afternoon update... but with a twist. Unofficial Okemo went on another field trip today, but you'll have to keep reading to find out where we went (hint: it's magical). 🦄 When I first started my Tele adventures last week, I had a few people in mind to show me the ropes and give me some pointers. The first person on that list was Chris Marks, who has been freeing his heal ever since I've known him. He has made a few appearances in our snow reports and skis just as hard as everyone else. He exudes coolness, dropping his knee and rocking his mustache. Keep reading to hear how our field trip went! ⬇️
Today, Chris and I met at Singleton's and made our way down to Magic Mountain to grab a quick lap before he was off to work. If you haven’t skied at Magic before, I highly recommend making a trip. 💯 It's a mountain with character, an amazing community, and some hardcore terrain, especially if you can nail a powder day! We parked at the base, slipped on our boots, and began our 40-minute ascent.
This was my first climb in tele gear and after a few adjustments, I was ready to rock. We were pleasantly surprised by the conditions. 😮 The soft snow from yesterday had set up and was firm, but there was a dusting of fresh snow towards the summit that was calling our name. The temperatures and sun, though, couldn’t have been better and I was skiing in sunglasses. After a brief rundown of the basics, we headed down, stopping occasionally to give me some pointers on how to improve my technique. We dropped into Trick, a steep narrow trail, that led us back to Wand, and eventually down Show-Off, which had one groomed strip that I took advantage of.
Pro Tip: Magic Mountain is open Thursday - Sundays for downhill skiing.
Once again, today was about good company, fresh air, and challenging myself on different terrain with a new style of skiing. 🥳 It was great to get out on an empty mountain (Magic is closed Monday through Wednesday) to enjoy Vermont in all its glory. This is the time of year to enjoy every part of skiing; the sun, the snow, the après, and the people who make it worthwhile. ✌️
