99. Thursday, April 13th

Typically, I like to lay out on my paddle board on Lake Rescue or soak up the sun by the Jackson Gore pool when it's 76 degrees and sunny. But when it's mid-April, it feels a little preemptive to swap out the ski gear for a bikini. It's probably going to be the warmest day of skiing you've ever experienced. 🥵 Like seriously, don't even bother wearing your ski pants or shell... it's a pair of jean shorts and tie-dye tee kind of day. Noah, Hannah, Riley, and Ted began their mornings the only way they know with a sunrise hike to the summit of Okemo. Here is Noah with your Thursday snow report. 🌞

The crew met up at 6 a.m. for another Unofficial Okemo sunrise climb. It was a very warm start to the day with temperatures in the 50s and wind carrying in even warmer air. 🌬️ It didn’t take long for me to strip down to my t-shirt. As we climbed, the signs of spring weather began to show themselves. The bare spots are getting bigger, with the occasional crevasse in the middle of the trail. Don’t worry ski patrol will be out to mark all the danger zones. 🚔

As I write this, I'm reflecting on the conversations we have while hiking. This time of year, the conversation revolves around biking, camping, and general summer plans. 😎 We love skiing and winter, but what I love most about Vermont is that the seasons are always changing and there is always a new activity to look forward to.

Pro Tip: If you don't like mashed potatoes, go early before things get skied off. Skiing from 9-10 a.m. is very different than 2-3 p.m. this time of year. ⏱️

Today's Quick Facts:

🎿 Trail Count: 57/122

🚡 Lift Count: 3/20

☀️ Weather: High of 76!

When we reached the summit, it was time to take our skins off, but the significant layering changes we typically need are no longer as important. Today was a leisurely swap, sipping coffee and enjoying the early morning sun. The snow on the way down was soft (as usual). 🧈 You can really arc your turns before it gets chopped up by everyone riding the lifts. As the mountain opens, the trails will get progressively bumped up and inconsistent, but that’s what spring skiing is all about. The bumps and the halfpipe are my favorite places to be this time of year. 🏂

"Yaaahoooo!" - Echoed by Everyone 🎉
