01. Saturday, December 17th

We couldn't think of a more perfect day to launch Unofficial Okemo than on the biggest snow day of the 2022/2023 ski season. Without further ado, enjoy our first morning update!

Our morning hike up the Sapphire trail with Okemo's famous groomers in the background.

The snow started falling Thursday night and has finally let up this morning leaving us with 27” of fresh pow. This is just what we needed and a great change compared to two weeks ago. Thanks to the Okemo snowmaking team there was already 225.9 acres of terrain open and we expect that more will be added in the coming days. The snow is fabulous, we can’t deny there is something special about natural snow.

The skiing this morning was phenomenal! The upper mountain lifts were on wind hold yesterday so we decided to hike up to see what things were looking like. The groomers were out ensuring some soft corduroy on select trails including Sapphire, Lower Arrow, and Upper Arrow. We had first tracks on Nor’Easter and enjoyed some fresh powder with some fun wind drifts to keep things interesting. You can expect overcast skis today with some flurries mixed in, temperatures look to be in the mid to low 30s on the lower mountain and dropping into the upper 20’s toward the summit.

As we write this The Evergreen Express and Sunburst Six are currently on hold but we know the Okemo team is hard at work getting those lifts up and going. We saw the team working hard while we got to take our first laps.

Lift Tip: If the line at the Sunburst Six is starting to back-up, head over to the Evergreen Express Quad. This lift provides access to the summit without the crowds. It opened last season so it's still lying under the radar. Check out the trail map for further directions.

Snack Tip: Take the Sunburst Six up to the Summit Lodge Cafe and down a hot chocolate and cookie while overlooking the snow-covered views.

Our team this morning consisted of some of Ludlow's finest locals: Noah, Danny, Hannah, Cole, and Felix. Hiking up the mountain and taking some of the first runs of the day is an unmatched feeling. We simply love our community of hikers, skiers and riders.

"I really enjoyed the pillowy, blissful snow this morning. It truly felt like I was surfing the earth. Christmas came early, huh?" - Danny C.

Don't miss today's Free Demo Day at Solitude on Okemo. This is a try-before-you-buy event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check out Noah's favorite skis: The Nordica Enforcer 104.
