36. Saturday, January 28th

Updated: Jan 31, 2023

Today's report is coming to you solely from Noah, Abby is enjoying a day off with friends and I am going to try my best to capture her spirit today. I was solo this morning after George slept through his alarm... but don't worry George, Stephen King kept me company on the way up and Miley Cyrus was there for me on the way down.

Ludlow waking up this morning.

It was very peaceful this morning, calm, crisp, and some snow flurries welcomed the new day. The breeze did pick up on the summit and strong gusts appeared just as I was trying to fold and pack away my skins, suffice it to say they did not get packed neatly. The wind wasn't stopping the lifts though. The Evergreen Express and Sunburst Six were spinning as usual, getting all their checks done in time for 8 am opening. There are 108 Trails and all 20 lifts scheduled for today.

Grooming began Yesterday at 4:30 p.m. covering all the trails you know and love from Jackson Gore to South Face. They did some mountain tilling last night which means they till the snow just like they would till a field of strawberries, (that is where they got the original design) working the snow deep, not just on the surface. Then they come around with the regular tillers to lay out that famous Okemo corduroy. They made some snow last night too, Dream Weaver, Lower Sel's, Home Stretch, Easy Street, The Summit, and The Base Area all saw some action.

Expect some warmer than average temps today ranging from the mid 20's on the summit to mid 30s in the base. The wind will be the focus today with some strong gusts expected. It will be cloudy today and some snow flurries are not out of the question. Overall its going to be a pretty typical New England ski day, grab some friends, take some laps, and enjoy!

Pro Tip: Take an early or late lunch, crowds die down around lunch time, take advantage of the shorter lift lines . ⛷️

Today's Quick Facts:

🎿 Trail Count: 108/122

🚡 Lift Count: 20

🔫 Snowmaking: Dream Weaver, Lower Sel's, Home Stretch, Easy Street, The Summit, and The Base Area

Snow Storm Outlook:

The Sunday storm is not looking great, as usual things changed and warmer temps look to change the snow into wintery mix and the dreaded "R" word. The summit is still poised to get snow but lower elevations can expect wetter precipitation. I have seen projections of a couple inches expected but once again we just have to wait and see. We will keep you posted with more information as we get it.

Uphill Skiing:

DaytimeUphill Travel opens today! The approved route is Homeward Bound crossing over at the Sugar House to Chief. We love our uphill community and we have been waiting for daytime travel to open up, this means more access for those of you not ready to brave the early mornings or skiing in the dark. Chief is a race trail so it will not be open when it is being used for that purpose, Dreamweaver will be coming online soon though. Always call the Okemo Uphill Hotline for current information.
