50. Friday, January 19th

Hey Unofficianados, it's Abby with your Friday snow report! 🪩 The magic of Okemo's grooming team is alive and well with unbelievably perfect conditions. Every trail was buttery smooth and made for some effortless skiing. I was one of the lucky ones to get stuck on the Sunburst Six this morning, so keep reading to hear about how my claustrophobia was at all-time high. 🤠

I also got my first tune of the season at The Boot Pro, after skiing on a factory tune all winter with my new Nordica Santa Anas. Turns out, I can absolutely rip on these babies. 🤘 Y'all should probably get your Valentine a season tune sticker and ditch the box of chocolates. I felt like a million bucks! 😍

Abby and Rainie from Nordica!

In classic Abby fashion, I began my morning with yoga, hot golden milk, 583 kisses from Maple, and started my ski day at Jackson Gore. My aggressive warmup run down Vortex to Quantum Leap was one for the books. The grooming was honestly surreal; no imperfections, soft, carvable, but firm enough to really dig into your edges. 10/10 🙌

A trail that is often overlooked, Sunset Strip, was perfectly silky and gave me good speed to cross over Malfunction Junction to SIDEWINDER! Finally, I got to ski one of my favorite trails. Since it is newly opened, the snow is not nearly as good as other trails, so give it a few days to continue to set up from the snowmaking and get more traffic on it to soften it a bit. There is some uneven grooming, cookies, and very firm spots. Trust the process though, it'll get better! 🙏

Now, listen up Solitude owners, because MOONSHADOW IS OPEN. In fact, 100% of Solitude is now open for the season. With fresh groomers and no other tracks in sight, I had a lovely leisurely ride down Upper Moonshadow to Rising Star.

Today's Quick Facts:

🏔️ Trail Count: 113/122

🚡 Lift Count: 13/20

⛷️Today's Ski: Nordica Santa Ana

🎿 Today's Boot: Nordica Dobermann 5

🧤 Today's Gear: Helly Hansen Powderqueen Set

Heaven's Gate was unreal. 😇 The wall-to-wall coverage and prime grooming created some seriously good Hero Snow. Then, a rip down Lower Arrow and back to the Sunburst Six for the biggest thrill of the day; getting stuck on the bubble for mechanical hold.

I'm exaggerating a bit because it did eventually start running on what I believe to be the backup generator, but we were stuck for around 20 minutes I'd say, though it felt like an eternity. ⏰ Luckily, I happened to be joined by Unofficial Fans and another gal named Abby (sweet name), so we joked about who would be the first to evacuate the chair. I volunteered, of course, but only for the content. No evacuation was needed though, and the bubble finally moved slowly up to the summit. The lift will remain on mechanical hold at this time, so plan to take the Evergreen Express if you're looking for a bubble.

Pro Tip: The Boot Pro can get some cold wax on your skis for this weekend's temps!

Do you want to ski with Noah? 😎 Join him at Okemo's Helly Hansen First Tracks Event at 6 a.m. at the Clocktower Base Area for an uphill hike. Visit okemo.com for more details.

Thanks to The Boot Pro for the fantastic tune on my Santa Anas. What a difference it makes to have an edge. 😂 I'll have more content straight from the professionals, aka Randy, for some tuning education. Stay tuned on our reports and social for more from @thebootproskishop.

Snowmaking continues in these chilly temps! 🔫 Okemo actually shared their snowmaking plan for today which includes: Lower Tomahawk, Lower Timberline, Dream Weaver, The Zone & Homeward Bound. Note that Dream Weaver, Off The Rim & Loose Spruce will be on hold due to snowmaking. So it sounds like SouthFace is not the best spot for skiing today. 🙅‍♀️

Please follow the Uphill Travel Policy at Okemo, follow the rules, and be cool about it.

Think snow,

Abby
